Officers from the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDBOP) have uncovered further attempts to traffic marijuana.
A man carrying 15 kg of the drug intended for trafficking was arrested during a special operation in Sofia on July 10, 2026. A search of the vehicle he was driving resulted in the discovery and seizure of approximately 10,000 euros in addition to the narcotics. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated by the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office, and the detained individual has been formally charged.
In a separate operation in Haskovo, a 60-year-old man was arrested while attempting to transport four packages of dried plant matter with a total weight of 2,845 grams; these were found in the vehicle's trunk. A police operation was conducted on July 12, 2026, in the town of Svilengrad, and pre-trial proceedings have been initiated under the supervision of the Svilengrad Regional Prosecutor's Office.The initial detention has been extended to up to 72 hours by an order of the supervising prosecutor.
