36 people were detained in Sofia’s Botunets district and other parts of the capital in a joint GDCOC and Sofia Directorate operation. They are known criminals, mainly from the so-called “Kalashnikovs” group, said Chief Commissioner Lyubomir Nikolov, acting Secretary General of the Ministry of the Interior.
Weapons were found at some addresses; at others, girls and lists of names likely used for prostitution on behalf of members of the detained group.
Work is under way on six pre-trial proceedings opened by the city and district prosecutor’s offices, mainly for racketeering, pimping and extortion. “The Ministry of the Interior will be uncompromising,” said Chief Commissioner Nikolov, urging citizens to report such activity promptly.
