A maker of 3D-printed firearms was arrested by GDCOC officers during a special operation in Burgas on 18 June 2026. The police action was taken as a matter of urgency, and the gathered materials were reported to the Burgas Regional Prosecutor's Office.
During the search and seizure at a private address, various pieces of evidence were found — 3D printers, materials and consumables (polymer rolls, a drying unit for finished items, and more), as well as electronic devices and computer systems containing files with designs for various models of firearms and ammunition.
An operation of this kind was carried out for the first time in Bulgaria. It is in line with the increasing vigilance of police services worldwide towards "ghost guns" and their unhindered spread online.
Regarding the home manufacture of weapons, legislative measures and technical controls are being considered at international level, given the risk of their use for malicious and illegal activity.
The relevant GDCOC departments continue their work to uncover the full criminal scheme and to prevent this type of illegal activity across the country.
